Our Advanced Diploma in Music Production and Sound Engineering is designed to help you move from interest to industry-ready in 12 months. The curriculum draws on almost 90 years of innovation at Abbey Road Studios and the day-to-day experience of the team at Bay Owl Studios in Mumbai.
Across the year you will move through core topics in sound theory, acoustics, microphones, recording, editing, mixing, mastering, production, composition, electronic music, post-production, orchestration, arrangement, sampling, synthesis and music business.
You will learn in small groups inside professional rooms at Bay Owl Studios, with regular sessions led by visiting engineers, producers and artists who actively work in the Indian and international music scenes.
The goal is to develop you as a rounded professional who can think creatively, troubleshoot technically and communicate clearly with artists, collaborators and clients – whether you are building your own projects or supporting someone else’s vision.
As a graduate of Abbey Road Institute Mumbai you will be able to:
- Use industry-standard tools including Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Logic Pro as well as a wide range of plug-ins and outboard equipment, to create, record, edit, mix and master music.
- Develop and arrange ideas for both electronic and band-based productions, from demos through to release-ready material.
- Work effectively as part of a creative and technical team in sessions, rehearsals, live recordings and post-production projects.
- Plan and manage projects to deadlines, from pre-production to delivery, including backups, recalls and client feedback.
- Troubleshoot technical issues in the studio and adapt your approach based on what the song, artist or project needs.
- Understand the fundamentals of today’s music and audio business, including publishing basics, royalties, credits, branding and collaboration.
- Take ownership of your professional development, including building a portfolio, networking and setting up sustainable workflows.

- Duration: 12 months of teaching (48 weeks of tuition, with short breaks during the year).
- Study mode: Full-time, generally Monday to Friday, with additional access to studios and workstations.
